(Same introduction as in VCF0805 [CARD WITH RESPONSES SHOWN]). ‘The government in Washington ought to see to it that everybody who wants to work can find a job.’
Government should guarantee jobs for everyone who wants one · Asked in 3 waves, 1956–1960 · 4,376 responses · weighted estimates computed from individual responses
Split from anes:VCF0808, which holds the other years: 1956-1960 asked agreement with a one-sided statement (agree strongly or not very strongly = 1, disagree = 2; codebook general note); 1964 on offers two sides (government should see to jobs and a good standard of living vs. let each person get ahead), so the levels are not comparable (68%-71% vs. 33%-42% for government). Codes that include 'no Pre/Post IW' were dropped for respondents without that interview. Kept and flagged: 0 (no_answer), 9 (dk). Codebook notes: See also: VCF0809. GENERAL NOTE: For 1956, 1958 and 1960, ‘agree strongly’ and ‘agree but not very strongly’ were coded 1. ‘Disagree strongly’ and ‘disagree but not very strongly’ were coded 2.
