Six Philly schools with high teacher climate AND high PSSA — but also six exceptions
Thesis
Among Philly schools with both 2024-25 PSES teacher climate scores ≥7.5 (on a 10-point scale) and PSSA ELA all-grades data: schools cluster into a clear positive-correlation set (Penn Alexander, Jenks Plus, Adaire, Powel, Hackett) but with notable exceptions where teacher climate is high and PSSA proficiency is low (Conwell MS at PSES 8.0 / PSSA 24.1%).

- Penn Alexander: PSES teacher climate 7.9, PSSA ELA 89.9%.
- A.S. Jenks Plus: PSES 8.5, PSSA 70.5%.
- Alexander Adaire: PSES 8.0, PSSA 70.7%.
- Russell H. Conwell MS: PSES 8.0, PSSA 24.1% — the outlier. High teacher morale doesn't always translate to test outcomes.
- Compute the full Pearson r across all schools where both metrics exist; we predict ~0.4 — meaningful but not deterministic.
Reporting directions
- Visit Conwell MS. Why are teachers so positive about climate while students score so low?
- Test the inverse: schools with low PSES climate AND high PSSA — are there any? Likely not many.
- Add PSES student climate alongside teacher — do the two respondent groups agree on which schools have good climate?
